The Holidays

posted Tuesday, 3 January 2006
December was a brutal month.  I worked long hours and barely picked up my guitar, banjo or mandolin.  What made it all worthwhile was family.

Christmas was on a Sunday so for the first time in a long time I was able to spend Christmas Eve with my family.  We did some last minute shopping and went over to my niece's new house.  It's a little small but seemed much smaller with my family in it.

My daughter ended up getting way too much stuff but there is no way to avoid it.  She has too many uncles and aunts (and a doting father).  She got a digital camera (Nikon) and mp3 player.  The wife got me a new laptop and she got a Wacom Drawing Pad for her computer.  I'm looking forward to seeing her art.  Both she and my daughter have serious talent.

A couple of days after Christmas we went to my brother-in-laws.  He lives way out in the country and we had a nice dinner.  Afterwards he showed me his dog, part mastiff and part horse.  It's head was the size of my first VW Beetle.  He kept putting his head in my lap and using all my strength I couldn't push him away.  Plus he would leave pools of drool everywhere he put his head.  It was hard for me to mask my true feelings about dogs.

I took a couple of days off work and just decompressed.

New Years came and we spent it with friends who live out in River Corners.  Normally I'm comfortable in groups but all their friends are into hunting and the outdoors.  I spent the first hour sitting on the couch watching the Outdoor Channel.  Nothing says New Years like watching a tv show about skinning deer.

It got better around midnight when a poker game broke out and I won some nickels.  Great bunch of guys and a lot of good food.

I spent the next day thinking about all the projects of the coming year.

I thnk it's going to be a good year.
