Firemen

I love talking to firefighters. When they have to work it is intense and dangerous but they also have a lot of downtime, so they have time to think.
I was talking to a firefighter today and the conversation turned to pension changes that are happening everywhere. He told me his theory, that the early baby-boomers got everything and left the later boomers with little. He explained that people ten years older than us were the early baby-boomers. He said that their first cars were muscle cars while our first cars were Pintos, Vegas, and if we were lucky the Dodge Dart. He said that they got their first houses at 31/2% interest where we got ours at 16%. He talked about the energy crisis, savings and loan scandal, and finally to pensions and such.
I was tempted to tell him about all of the social forces at work and then tell him the first step to victimhood is finding someone to blame, but kept my mouth shut. Downtime must be sweet.
I would have enjoyed being a firefighter.
